THE TRAVELOGUE APPRECIATION SOCIETY

back-tracking part 17..

NEWPORT BEACH CALIFORNIA….. october 2011.

last coastal stop before turning back east…

it was a long stop.

one year ago today we pulled out of the society gates and headed west with no real destination and no idea of what we were in for or when we would be coming back…. we traveled over 13,000 miles up and down the back roads of 22 states for over 5 months and spent just over $4000 on diesel fuel….
some days were hard.. traveling with my 17 year old dog kroger was always a challenge and at times frustrating but it was worth it and she made it the whole way.. some days we argued terribly. but there was always something that brought us back.. a road, a spider, a rainstorm, a cold beer….and we always continued down the road together.. we got to see things many people will never get the chance to, and places we may never see again.. there were amazing moments i’ll never forget and through everything i wouldn’t change a minute of it… and am ready to go again..
thank you everyone who gave us a place to stay and to all who purchased the mailorder.. i hope you were as pleased to receive them as we were making them for you. keep an eye out for the next one.

back tracking part 16- LOS ANGELES.

L.A. was hard… but in the end it was good times… we drank with celebrities at posh hotels, dive and piano bars..  ate from many fine taco trucks… and almost got kidnapped at the church of scientology museum. we were also made to listen to the latest chili peppers record over and over again at top volume and top speed during drunken excursions..

and it was in los angeles we discovered the awesome weirdness that is the prince… the best korean fried chicken place ever.

today, at the historic Hatch Show Print company in Nashville Tennessee, these go on the press.. a limited two-color poster will be available soon. the proceeds will be going towards getting GHOST STANLEY repaired and to help fund an upcoming trip..

afternoon oyster run.. DELTAVILLE VIRGINIA.

our new friend Don shows us his operation at DeltavilleOysterCompany.. a one man outfit that reaches from his backyard to the acres of river he leases…. we helped drop traps and ate right from the water..

we drank beers as he showed us the proper way to shuck, (slowly), and then he gave us some blue crab from his personal traps.. it was a good tuesday.

just a quick drive away, fresh seafood and a new friend await.. and just 40cents a piece. check out what don does at

i need to get back here immediately. but ghost stanley is still broken.

CAPE HATTERAS NATIONAL SEASHORE-FRISCO BEACH.

full moon nighttime swim club, beachcombers society and bird heckling. once the trucks are all off the beach its pretty quiet here.. plus there’s a pinball arcade/gas station on the way.. which is nice.

tick count=5 (little tiny bastards)

this is NIKKO..

nikko asked me if he could have an art show at cous so i gave him the month of june.. in july he will be trekking across the country from virginia to colorado. he came over to the society compund the other day to hang out and work on some linoleum prints for the show with molly anne. we ate pizza and talked about pterodactyls and sword fighting mostly, which i imagine to be much of the content of his work.

check out Nikko’s art all month long at cous cous.. there will be an opening and silent auction tonight, june 1st, and the artist will be djing until he gets too tired and has to go to bed. there will also be free “humes and pita and sparkiling apple sidder”.

come buy some art and get this awesome little dude some cash for his first big road trip.
